Collaborate Global for Octopus Energy Generation
The Brief
Create a family-focused fan zone at Alexandra Palace that could introduce Octopus Energy Generation in an engaging and accessible way, combining education, play and brand interaction within a single outdoor experience.
My Contribution
Sole designer on the project, developing the initial mood board and creative concept, spatial planning, visitor journey and individual activation zones through to full 3D design and visualisation.
The Thinking
Rather than treating the site as a flat space of individual elements, the natural slope helped to create a journey, introducing a winding pathway and layers of scenery that guided visitors through the Octopus Fan Club world.
Each part of the journey offered a different interaction with the brand. Visitors could generate energy inside the Fan Club Wheel, explore Octopus digitally through interactive kiosks and VR, or slow down within a relaxed picnic and craft area. A beach-inspired photo moment with an oversized Constantine mascot brought the offshore energy story into the landscape, while a solar-powered merchandise cabin added another subtle connection to renewable energy.
The visual language was deliberately playful, taking cues from Octopus Energy Generation's own illustrated world and translating these into physical scenery. Curved graphic walls followed the landscape, creating separation without closing the space, while oversized props, pinwheels and changes in height allowed different activities to gradually reveal themselves along the route.
The result was designed as a space children could explore, but with the wider brand narrative built into the journey; using play, movement and discovery to make a complex subject feel approachable.
